Senators fall behind early; can’t catch up in loss to Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA, TN – Walters State fell behind early and could not catch up as they lost to the Tigers of Chattanooga State, 86-74, on Wednesday evening . 

 

With the loss, Walters State falls to 11-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play. 

 

Deovaunta Williams led Walters State with 24 points. Williams played all 40 minutes and had seven assists. 

 

Along with Williams, Isaiah Farrior had 11 points while Izaiha Bredwood scored eight. Other scorers in the game were Josh Jerome and Ronnie Thompson with two each, Ty Hurst with five,  Riley Cooper with four,  Ijesuoefe Iyamu with three, Javontay Rollings with three, Destin Barker with six, Brandon Kabuya Mpoyi with four. 

 

It was all Chattanooga State to open the game as they built a 17-6 lead. The Senators managed to cut it to eight, but the Tigers were off again and led 33-14 10 minutes into the game. 

 

However, the Senators would not go away as Farrior converted an and-one and Williams scored. The Senators continued to chip away as Williams scored 14 in the half and trailed 44-35 at the break.

 

Coming out of the half, the Senators managed to cut the lead to seven at 52-45 and then six at 56-50 when Farrior hit a 3-pointer. The Senators would stick around for longer and got the lead back down to 77-71 with four minutes to go after yet another Williams basket. Unfortunately, that was as close as they would get as they went cold from the field late.

Walters State will be back in action at home on Saturday, taking on Columbia State. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
