Senators break 100 in rout of Milligan JV

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State got back in the win column on Monday evening, taking down Milligan University JV, 101-52.

With the win, the Senators improve to 12-10 on the season. The win broke a three-game losing streak.

"We're hoping this will get us started," Walters State coach Bill Carlyle said. "We've played everyone in the conference tough, we just have trouble getting over the finish line. Hopefully this will give us some confidence. It's nice to see everyone smile. We're just happy for the win."

The Senators were led in the game by Deovaunta Williams with 18 points. Since returning to the team at the start of 2022, Williams is averaging over 18 points per game.

Along with Williams, Riley Cooper had 16 points while Jared Carter had 15. Carter was a perfect 1-1 from the 3-point line, upping his NJCAA leading three-point percentage to 64.2%.

Other scorers in the game for Walters State were Ty Hurst with 11, Brandon Kabuya with 11, Josh Jerome with nine, Destin Barker with eight, Kawika Makua with five and Izaiha Bredwood, Dowar Jioklow, Turner Bailey and Deng Akok each with two.

It was a slow start for the Senators as they let Milligan hang around. However, at 11-9, Walters State began to take control. The Senators went on a 17-4 run to take a 28-13 lead. Milligan would answer with a 7-0 run, but Walters State ended the half on a 15-3 run and led 43-23 at the break.

In the first half, nine Senators scored with Cooper leading the way with eight points.

The second half was more of the same as every Senator entered the game. Walters State outscored Milligan 58-29 in the half as they cruised to the victory. Williams led all scorers in the half with 12 points.
