Senators fall on the road to Roane State

HARRIMAN, TN – Walters State fell behind early and could never play their way back into the game, falling to Roane State 87-64.

 

With the loss, Walters State falls to 16-13 overall and 7-10 in TCCAA play.

 

Deovaunta Williams led the way for Walters State with 11 points, five in the first half and six in the second. Riley Cooper was the only other Senator in double figures with 10 points. Cooper scored eight in the second half.

 

Other scorers for Walters State were Izaiha Bredwood with nine, Destin Barker and Brandon Kabuya both with seven, Isaiah Farrior and Jared Carter with five, Kawika Makua with four and Josh Jerome, Ty Hurst and Dowar Jioklow with two each. 

 

The Senators struggled from the get-go against the Raiders as they fell behind 31-20 at the half. Bredwood led the team with six points in the half while Williams scored five. No other Senators made more than a field goal in the first 20 minutes. 

 

The offense got going in the second half for Walters State but so did Roane State's. The Senators scored 44 points in the half while Roane State scored 56 on their way to the victory. 

 

In the second half, Cooper led the way with his eight points while Barker had seven, Williams six and Kabuya five.

Walters State will close out the regular season at home on Saturday against Jackson State. It's Sophomore Day and tip is set for 4 p.m.
