No. 24 Walters State hit 18 3-pointers in 109-77 win over Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, TN – No. 24 Walters State scored 53 in the first half on Wednesday night against Cleveland State and added 56 in the second half on their way to a 109-77 victory. 

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 19-1 overall and 10-1 in TCCAA play. The Senators have now won seven in-a-row. 

 

Six finished in double figures for Walters State. Charvez Ambrose led the way off the bench with 17 points, draining five 3-pointers. Along with Ambrose, Ramando Battle came off the bench and had 16 points and five rebounds. 

 

Other contributors for Walters State were Jamar Livingston with 14 points and five rebounds, Micah Simpson with 13 points, JR Jacbos with 10 points and six assists, Jaylen Wharton with 10 points, Greg Moore with eight points and four assists, Malachi Hale with eight points and five rebounds, Chi Shannon with six points and five rebounds, Carter Metz with three points, Jaylon Taylor with two points and four rebounds and Jair Horton with two points and four rebounds. 

 

Offensively, Walters State was 41-80 from the field, assisting on 28 made shots. The Senators made 18 3-pointers, their second highest total of the season. Defensively, Walters State forced 25 turnovers. 

 

Walters State set the tone in the first half, breaking out to a 53-35 win after 20 minutes. Wharton was a perfect 4-4 in the first half with eight points, while Ambrose hit three 3-pointers and had 11 points. Battle added seven points, while Simpson hit two 3-pointers and had six points. 

 

The second half was a lot of the same for Walters State, as the Senators scored 56 more points on their way to the win. Livingston hit three 3-pointers in the second half to finish with nine points. Battle had nine points as well, while Simpson and Jacobs added seven points each. Shannon, Moore and Ambrose all had six. 

 

Walters State was 10-20 in the second half from 3-point range and shot 58% from the field.
