Walters State in third place after first day of East Tennessee Collegiate

JOHNSON CITY, TN – Walters State got off to a strong start to open up the fall golf season on Monday afternoon in the first round of the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club.  

After the first round, the Senators sit in third place at 299, just six shots behind the leader the University of the Cumberlands. Host Milligan University is in second place at 296.  

The Senators were led by AJ Rinehart, making his debut for Walters State. Rinehart shot a 71, 1-under, which puts him in third place in the tournament.  

Also making his Walters State debut was Morristown native Sawyer Spoone. Spoone and sophomore Nate Vaughan both shot 75's on the day and are in a tie for ninth place.  

Other golfers for the Senators on Monday were Hunter Hartman and Jeremy Ellis. Hartman and Ellis are both in a tie for 24th place after shooting 78's.  

Milligan's Ty Beasley currently leads the tournament after shooting a 69, 3-under.  

Up Next:  

Walters State will be back in action on Tuesday for the final round of the East Tennessee Collegiate.
