Walters State tied for first after opening round of Walters State Fall Classic

MORRISTOWN, TN – Day one of the Walters State Fall Golf Classic featured fantastic weather, a course in amazing shape and the host team tied atop of the leaderboard.

 

The Senators fired a six-over 294 to tie with Tusculum's B-team in Monday's opening round. The Pioneers' Kyle Engelbert carded the best score of the day as he finished with a five-under 67. He finished with six birdies and had an eagle on the par-5 third hole. Belmont Abbey's Brendan Kelly is in second place with an even-par 72.

 

Walters State teammates Nate Vaughan and Hunter Hartman are tied for third place along with Belmont Abbey's Will Locey as the trio each fired a 73. A.J. Rinehart and Sawyer Spoone each shot a 74 for the Senators to land in a tie for sixth place. Rounding out the scores for Walters State are Jeremy Ellis and Justin Cowden  (t-9th), J.T. McKenzie's 76 (15th), and Chad Homan who finished with a score of 79 (T-19th).

 

Following the Senators and Pioneers in the team placing are the Belmont Abbey B-team at 302, their C-team at 310, and Roane State and Carson-Newman's B-team each had a team score of 321.

 

Day two of the Fall Classic starts on Tuesday morning.
