Walters State finishes in 2nd place at ABAC Stallion Invitational

TIFTON, GA – Walters State closed their first tournament of the spring golf season strong on Tuesday morning, capturing second place in the ABAC Stallion Invitational at Spring Hill Country Club. 

 

The Senators entered the day two shots back of second place and shot a 307 to bump them into second. Walters State finished with a 57-over for the tournament.  

 

First place of the tournament went to Central Alabama CC who shot 30-over as a team. 

 

Walters State was led by Nate Vaughan, who finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place at 9-over. Vaughan shot a 3-over, 75, in the final round on Tuesday. Vaughan birdied the par-5 seventh hole and par-5 12th hole. 

 

AJ Rinehart was next for Walters State, coming in right behind Vaughan with a 10th place finish at 13-over. Rinehart shot a 76 on Tuesday, birdieing holes three, seven and 12.

 

Other finishers for Walters State in the tournament were Jeremy Ellis (T-18), Hunter Hartman (T-22) and Sawyer Spoone (T-22). Ellis shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish at a tournament score of 21-over. Ellis birdied holes seven, 14, 15 and 18.

 

Hartman and Spoone tied in 22nd, both shooting 23-over for the tournament. Hartman shot an 80 on Tuesday while Spoone shot an 84. Hartman birdied holes seven, eight and 12 while Spoone birdied hole 15. 

 

Trey Rouse of Jefferson State CC won the tournament with a score of even par after shooting a 72 in the final round. 

 

Up Next:

 

Walters State will be back in action on Sunday, March 13, for the first day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville. The tournament will be a three-day event.
