Senators compete in first round of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, TN – The Walters State golf team participated in the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club on Monday afternoon, finishing in 13th place through the first 18 holes. 

 

As a team, the Senators shot a 14-over to put them ahead of Tennessee State, Alabama A&M and Roane State. Carson-Newman is in first place with a team score of 13-under. 

 

Nate Vaughan led the way for the Senators as he shot an even par, 72. Vaughan shot a one-under on the back nine and birdied holes four and 10. Vaughan is currently in a tie for 18th place.

 

Along with Vaughan, Jeremy Ellis is in a tie for 24th after shooting a one-over, 73. The highlight of Ellis' round came on the 527-yard par five seventh hole when he eagled. 

 

Rounding out the round for the Senators were AJ Rinehart (T60th), Sawyer Spoone (T80th) and Hunter Hartman (T85th). Rinehart shot a five-over, 77, and birdied hole six while Spoone shot an eight-over, 80, and birdied holes 13 and 15. Hartman closed things out with a 10-over, 82, and birdied the 16th hole.

 

In first place is Oral Roberts' Lane Wallace who had five birdies and an eagle on his way to a six-under, 66.

Walters State closes things out in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Senators will tee off at 10 a.m.
