SEVIERVILLE, TN – Walters State improved their team score by seven shots in round two of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Sevierville Golf Club to finish the tournament with some momentum.

The Senators shot a team score of a seven-over, 295, on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a team score of 21-over. That finish was good enough for 13th place as Walters State finished ahead of Tennessee State, Alabama A&M and Roane State. 

Carson-Newman won the tournament with a team score of 29-under. The Eagles' Elliot MacGregor and Oral Roberts' Lane Wallace tied for first at nine-under. 

For the second straight day, Nate Vaughan led the way for Walters State with a one-over, 73. Vaughan finished the tournament at one-over, good enough for a tie for 27th place. On Tuesday, Vaughan had five birdies on holes four, nine, 10, 15 and 18. 

Jeremy Ellis matched ​Vaughan on Tuesday with a one-over, 73. Ellis finished the tournament in a tie for 32nd with a two-over tournament score. Ellis had four birdies on the back nine on Tuesday and six total for the round as he birdied holes three, eight, 11, 12, 15 and 18.

Rounding out the tournament for Walters State were AJ Rinehart (T58), Sawyer Spoone (T72) and Hunter Hartman (T76). Rinehart finished the tournament at seven-over and was two-under on the front nine on Tuesday after eagling hole three and birdieing hole seven. He finished the day shooting a two-over.

Meanwhile, Spoone shot a three-over on the day and finished the tournament at 11-over. Spoone birdied holes four, 10 and 14. Hartman ended the day at three-over and 13-over for the tournament. He birdied holes seven and 18 on Tuesday.

Walters State will return to the golf course next Monday and Tuesday for the Tusculum Invitational at Graysburg Hills Golf Course.
