Senators finish in 15th at 2022 Tennessee River Rumble

LENOIR CITY, TN – No. 10 Walters State battled windy conditions on Tuesday in the final day of the Tennessee River Rumble at Wind River Golf Course.

 

The Senators completed the second round and played the third, and final, round on Tuesday, finishing in 15th place with a team score of 41-over.

 

LMU won the event with a team score of two-under.

 

The Senators were led in the tournament by AJ Rinehart. Rinehart finished the tournament in 17th place with a score of two-over. Rinehart shot an even par 72 to complete round two and had birdies on holes six, 12 and 18. In round three, Rinehart shot a three-over, 75, with birdies on three, eight and 13.

 

Following Rinehart was Walters State's Nate Vaughan who finished in a tie for 35th place with a seven-over. Vaughan closed his second round with a one-under,71, as he birdied holes one and 17 and had just one bogey. Vaughan shot a five-over, 77, in round three with birdies on five and 18.

 

Rounding out the team was Hunter Hartman (T-79), Sawyer Spoone (T-82) and JT McKenzie (95). Hartman shot a 17-over for the tournament. In round two, he finished at 12-over before bouncing back with a five-over, 77, in round three, birdieing hole six. 

 

Meanwhile, Spoone finished at 18-over after shooting a 79 in round two and 76 in the final round. Spoone birdied the fourth hole in round two and the 15th and 18th in round three. 

 

Lastly, McKenzie finished the tournament at 24-over, posting an 84 in round two and a 74 in round three. McKenzie birdied holes two and 14 in the second round and holes two, 12, 13, 14 and 18 in round three. He shot a three-under on the back nine in round three. 

 

North Georgia's Stephen Kinsel won the tournament in a playoff.

Walters State will take a break until their next tournament, the NJCAA DII-Southeast District Championship. That is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 25, at the Golf Club of Bristol.
