Senators finish top 10 at NJCAA DII Championship

JOPLIN, MO — No. 8 Walters State concluded the NJCAA DII Championship on Friday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. 

 

The Senators finished the championship in 10th place with an 81-over score after shooting a 14-over in round four on Friday. It's the second straight year the Senators finished in 10th place at the national tournament. 

 

South Mountain CC took home the title with a 31-over. 

 

Nate Vaughan led the way for the Senators with a tie for 25th finish. Vaughan shot a 14-over for the tournament and a three-over in round four. Vaughan birdied the ninth hole. 

 

Jeremy Ellis was the low-scorer in round four for the Senators with a two-over, 74. He birdied holes 10 and 15. Ellis finished the tournament at 19-over and in a tie for 43rd. 

 

Sawyer Spoone and AJ Rinehart tied for 54th at 25-over. Both shot five-over on Friday with Rinehart birdieing the 16th hole. 

 

Rounding out the team was Hunter Hartman with a tie for 68th at 34-over. Hartman shot a four-over in round four. He birdied the sixth hole. 

 

Cecil Belisle from South Mountain CC won the tournament at even par.
