Senators finish runner-up at Calhoun Spring Classic

DECATUR, AL – No. 7 Walters State shot the low score of the day in the final round of the Calhoun Spring Classic on Tuesday afternoon, jumping up one spot to finish in second place.

 

The Senators shot a 296 in round three and finished the tournament at 24-over. Jefferson State CC won the tournament at 20-over. 

 

Walters State was led by Chad Homan, who finished in fifth place to earn All-Tournament honors. Homan shot a two-over on Tuesday with birdies on the second, third, 10th, 15th and 18th holes. He finished the tournament at three-over.

 

Also finishing in the top-10 for Walters State was AJ Rinehart. Rinehart finished in a tie for sixth at four-over after shooting a three-over on Tuesday. Rinehart had an eagle on the second hole and then birdied the third, 13th, 16th and 18th holes. 

 

Along with Homan and Rinehart, Sawyer Spoone (T-11) and Jeremy Ellis (T-14) closed out the tournament just outside of the top-10. Spoone shot a three-over on Tuesday, with birdies on the second, 13th, 16th and 18th holes, and finished the tournament at seven-over. 

 

Meanwhile, Ellis was the low man of the day for the Senators shooting even-par. Ellis had birdies on the third and eighth holes and then eagled the par-5 13th. He finished the tournament at 11-over.

 

Rounding out play for the Senators was JT McKenzie (32) at 19-over for the tournament. McKenzie shot five-over on Tuesday with birdies on the 10th and 13th holes. 

 

Up Next:

 

Walters State will be off for almost a month before returning to action on April 24 for the NJCAA DII Southeast District Championship. The tournament is a two-day event held at Golf Club of Bristol.
