Senators finish runner-up at Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout

JOHNSON CITY, TN – Walters State continued their solid stretch of golf on Tuesday afternoon, finishing in second-place in the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout at the Johnson City Country Club.

 

The Senators shot a 309 in round one but followed it up with a 299 in round two to finish at 32-over. Milligan's A team won the tournament at 22-over. It was Walters State's second straight runner-up finish. 

 

Individually, Nick Talley finished in second-place at one-over while Bowen Brantley finished in a tie for third-place at four-over. It's Talley's second straight top-three finish.

 

Talley started the day with a three-over, 75, in round one with a birdie on the 18th-hole. However, Talley came out on fire in round two and shot a two-under, 70. Talley birdied the third, fourth, sixth, 11th, 13th and 18th holes. He shot two-under on the front-nine and even-par on the back-nine. 

 

Similar to Talley, Brantley started the day with just one birdie in round one, on the sixth-hole, and shot seven-over (79). However, Brantley caught fire in round two and beat Talley by a shot, shooting a three-under (69). Brantley birdied holes five, eight, nine, 12, 17 and 18 and eagled the 523-yard par 5, 13th-hole. He shot even-par on the front-nine and three-under on the back-nine. 

 

Rounding out the team was Sloan Brooks (16), Ian Kinsey (T24) and Jack Leach (T26). Brooks finished the day at 11-over, after a three-over (75) in round one and an eight-over (80) in round two. Brooks birdied holes three, 13 and 14 in round one and hole 13 in round two. 

 

Meanwhile, Kinsey finished the day at 18-over after a 10-over (82) in round one and an eight-over (80) in round two. Kinsey birdied holes three and 13 in round one and holes 13 and 18 in round two.

 

Rounding out the team was Leach, finishing the day at 19-over after an eight-over (80) in round one and an 11-over (83) in round two. Leach birdied holes five, 11, 13 and 15 in round one and holes nine and 18 in round two.

Walters State will be back in action on Monday, April 8, in the Cleveland State Spring Tournament at The Ooltewah Club.
