Lady Senators drop games to East Central, No. 7 Wallace State-Hanceville

GULF SHORES, AL – Walters State closed out their time in Gulf Shores, AL on Saturday, falling to East Central Community College 9-6 and No. 7 Wallace State-Hanceville, 8-1.

 

With the losses, Walters State falls to 6-2 on the season.

 

Game One: East Central Community College 9, Walters State 6

 

The Lady Senators fell behind in their first game of the day and, despite a comeback, could not catch up with East Central.

 

Jessica Odom led the way for the Lady Senators in the game with two home runs. Brianna Beech also had a home run in the game while Maggie Johnson had three hits and Halle Laramie two. 

 

In the circle, Abigayle Holt got the start, giving up six runs, three earned, on six hits in 2.1 innings pitched. 


Ashley Milligan replaced her, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while Allison Chandler pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. 

 

Following three runs by East Central in the first, Walters State cut into the lead immediately in the second inning. Johnson led off the second with a single, and Beech brought her home with a two-run homer.

 

East Central scored three more in the third to make it 6-2. However, in the bottom of the third, Odom led off the inning with a solo home run. Ava Brooks brought home Kasey Bennett later in the inning on a sacrifice fly, and it was 6-4 after three.

 

The Lady Senators cut the lead to one in the fourth as Odom hit her second home run in as many innings. But, East Central would score three in the sixth to bump their lead back to 9-5. 

 

The Lady Senators added one more run in the seventh when Johnson scored after Beech reached on a two-base error. Walters State would load the bases with two outs, but a fly out ended the game. 

 

Game Two: No. 7 Wallace State-Hanceville 8, Walters State 1

 

The Lady Senators went up against their first nationally ranked team of the season in game two, falling to close out the weekend. 

 

Walters State totaled just four hits in game two with Odom, Tatum Dye, Ashlyn Gaines and Sam Chavez each reaching base.

The lone run of the game for the Lady Senators came in the third inning when Gaines doubled with one out and came around to score on a Dye single. 

 

In the circle, Adrienne Morrison got the start and threw four innings. Morrison gave up seven runs on eight hits and struck out two.

Chandler pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing just one run on four hits.

Walters State will be back in action next Friday, February 25, when they travel to Sand Mountain. The Lady Senators will play two games on Friday, at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., and two on Saturday, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
