Lady Senators swept by No. 9 Chattanooga State

Lady Senators swept by No. 9 Chattanooga State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State struggled at the plate and in the circle on Monday afternoon, falling to No. 9 Chattanooga State, 9-0 and 8-0 in five innings.

With the sweep, the Lady Senators fell to 14-6 on the season and 4-2 in TCCAA play.

"We just didn't play," Walters State coach Larry Sauceman said. "We made it too easy for them. We aren't going to beat anybody when we don't score a run. Their pitching is good. We just have to be better at the plate."

Game One: Chattanooga State 9, Walters State 0

In game one, the Lady Senators tallied just one hit while the Lady Tigers had 12.

Brianna Beech picked up the lone hit in the game with a single in the fifth.

The Lady Senators best chance of scoring came in the fifth as Beech led off the inning with a hit and Jessica Odom reached base on an error. Both were in scoring position with nobody out but two flyouts and a strikeout ended the threat.

In the circle, Adrienne Morrison got the start and threw 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Allison Chandler pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits.

Game Two: Chattanooga State 8, Walters State 0 (5 innings)

In game two, the Lady Tigers used a strong pitching performance again to lead them to victory.

Walters State totaled three hits in the second game as Kasey Bennett, Ava Brooks and Kaitlyn Harper all singled.

In the circle in game two, Abigayle Holt got the start and threw 0.2 of an inning, allowing three runs on three hits. Morrison replaced her with two outs in the first and allowed three runs on three hits over the next 1.2 innings.

With one out in the third, Ashley Milligan made her first appearance since Feb. 19. Milligan pitched the final 2.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two.

For Sauceman, his message to his team after the games was clear.

"If we want to be on top, that's what we have to beat," Sauceman said. "We just have to come out to play. We just didn't do much."

Up Next:

Walters State will be back in action on Friday and Saturday as they take on Jackson State for four games on the road. Friday's doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. while Saturday's will start at 1 p.m.

"We just need to come out and play," Sauceman said. "We're just trying to get better every game. We'll try and do that this weekend on the road."
