Lady Senators softball coach Larry Sauceman is entering his 27th season at Walters State, but his connection to the college was established four decades ago.
The Greene County native was a key member of the 1983-84 Senators baseball team that reached the Junior College World Series and finished the year as the nation's fifth-ranked team.
Before he arrived at Walters State, Sauceman spent a year as head baseball coach at his alma mater, Tusculum College in Greeneville. He also spent several seasons as a professional softball player, earning All-American honors with the Georgia-based and nationally-ranked Lighthouse team.
Sauceman has coached the Lady Senators to four Tennessee Community College Athletic Association and NJCAA Region VII Tournament titles and four appearances in the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series. The 2023 team finished with a record of 55-4 and finished 6th in the NJCAA D1 Softball World Series. He is also a member of the TCCAA Hall of Fame.
In 26 seasons at WSCC, Sauceman has compiled a 1039-371 record and has coached 14 All-Americans and many others that were named to the All-TCCAA teams and All-NJCAA Academic All-American Teams. He has also coached countless players who went on to play at four-year schools at all levels of NCAA and NAIA.
