Lady Senators score triple digits in dominating win over Motlow State

TULLAHOMA, TN – Walters State's Kailyn Farrell had a double-double while Aminata Tal added a career-high 20 points as the Lady Senators blew past Motlow State on Wednesday night, 104-22.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in TCCAA play. 

 

The 104 points was the most the Lady Senators have scored since they totaled 105 points on January 4, 2022 against Patrick & Henry. The 22 points allowed is the lowest output the Lady Senators have allowed in over a decade. 

 

Farrell led the team with 26 points on 10-17 shooting and had 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Farrell had 13 points in the first half and added 13 more in the second half. 

 

Along with Farrell, Tal shot 8-13 from the field and had five rebounds and four steals to go along with her 20 points. Tal's biggest impact came in the fourth quarter when she scored 12 points and drilled two 3-pointers. 

 

Other contributors for Walters State were Rose Morrow with 16 points, four steals and three rebounds, Izarria Alexander with 10 points, seven steals, five blocks and eight rebounds, Asia Barr with nine points and four assists, Maiya Reed with eight points and six assists, Briontanay Marshall with six points and five rebounds, Juilenne Ongbagnamen with six points and five rebounds and Matty Tanner with three points. 

 

As a team, Walters State shot 43-70 from the field and made seven 3-pointers. Defensively, the Lady Senators held Motlow to 8-42 from the field and 1-11 from 3-point range. Motlow scored single digits in all four quarters. 

 

Motlow led 3-2 early in the game, but the Lady Senators responded with 25 straight points to end the quarter and led 27-3. In the first, Morrow had eight points while Farrell added six and Barr had five. 

 

The second quarter was more of the same as Walters State scored 20 more points and held Motlow to six. The Lady Senators led 47-9 at the break as Farrell added seven more points and Alexander had four. 

 

In the third quarter, Walters State added 30 more points and led 77-18 after three. Farrell had her biggest quarter of the night with nine points and five rebounds while Tal had five points and Reed and Marshall had four. 

 

In the fourth, Tal completely took over as she made five field goals and had 12 points. Farrell and Ongbagnamen had four each.
