Barr scores 39 points, breaks school record for 3-pointers in a game

MORRISTOWN, TN – Asia Barr graced those in attendance on Wednesday evening with a performance they'll be talking about for quite some time.

Just one month ago, Barr broke the Walters State women's basketball record for 3-pointers in a game with 10 against Volunteer State. Against Roane State on Wednesday, she had that beat within the first few minutes of the third quarter.

Barr hit 13 3-pointers against the Lady Raiders, scoring 39 points as the Lady Senators picked up a 68-52 win in their final home game of the season.

With the win, Walters State improved to 17-7 on the season and 14-3 in TCCAA play.

"It's been a blessing having Asia in our basketball program over the past two years," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "Asia has been doing this all season, and tonight was just a result of all the hard work she has put in. Not only did she make 13, but she didn't miss very many that she took either. I am very happy for her."

Barr had seven 3-pointers by halftime, ending the first half with three straight. She hit four more in the third quarter, the record-breaker coming with 3:41 to go. Barr hit two more in the fourth quarter to cap things off.

Barr is now fourth in the country in 3-pointers made with 89 and is averaging well over 15 points per game.

Along with Barr, Kyra Perkins had 11 points and Kristyna Boyd had six. Other scorers were Emmanuella Amaefula with five, Tianna Rhodes with three, Briontanay Marshall with two and Janae Charles with two.

Barr naturally started the game off with a 3-pointer, and Perkins scored soon after. Roane State briefly took a lead at 6-5 and 8-7, but the Lady Senators answered with an 8-0 run to go up 15-8. During the run, Perkins scored, Charles scored, Amaefula hit a free throw and Barr hit a trey.

Roane State responded with six straight to make it a one-point game, but Amaefula and Perkins scored in the final minute to give Walters State a 19-14 advantage.

In the second, Roane State took a lead and extended it to 29-26 midway through the quarter. But Barr hit her second three of the quarter to tie the game. Roane State got one more basket in the half to briefly take the lead back, but Barr hit three 3-pointers in the final two minutes to give Walters State a 38-31 lead.

The Lady Senators came out in the third quarter with Barr shooting again, hitting two 3-pointers in the first two minutes to get the lead to 14. Roane cut it to 10 after, but Barr hit another 3-pointer, her 10th of the game. Barr hit one more 3-pointer in the quarter that made it 52-38, and Boyd scored four points in the final two minutes. Walters State led going to the fourth, 56-40.

In the fourth, Barr hit another three two minutes in. Her final three of the night were the Lady Senators final points of the game, as Walters State cruised to the win.
