CLEVELAND, TN – Walters State picked up an important road conference win on Tuesday night, sweeping Cleveland State 3-0 (25-20, 30-28, 25-15).
With the win, the Lady Senators move to 4-7 on the season and are 2-1 in conference play. It was Walters State's second straight victory as well as their second straight conference win.
"We played more as a team tonight," Walters State coach Megan Blaylock said. "Our serving was very strong, and I think we put more pressure on the other team. Our serve receive looked better tonight than it has the last few games as well. Mattie Rowland played really well and was very aggressive on the net. I'm proud of their performance tonight."
The Lady Senators have struggled this season to get first set wins, something that can swing the momentum substantially, but that proved no issue on Tuesday night. The Lady Senators got up 17-13 and wouldn't let Cleveland State back in it with a 25-20 win.
In set two, the Lady Senators went the distance, and then some, before closing out Cleveland State with a 30-28 win. Set three was a lot more of Walters State domination as they closed the match out with a 25-15 set three victory.
