Blaylock named Region VII Coach of the Year, three selected to All-Region Team

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State volleyball coach Megan Blaylock was named the 2021 Region VII Volleyball Coach of the Year on Friday evening.

 

This is the fourth straight year that Blaylock has been named the region's coach of the year. 

 

Blaylock earned the honor after leading the Lady Senators to a 13-9 regular season record. Walters State went 7-2 in the region, winning seven straight region matches at one point during the season. Blaylock also earned her 100th career win on Oct. 25 in a 3-0 sweep of Cumberland University JV.

 

Along with Blaylock, the Lady Senators had three student-athletes, Lydia Buchanan, Jordan Moore and Mackenzie Sweigart, named to the All-Region team. 

 

Sophomores on this year's team, Buchanan and Sweigart were both integral leaders for the Lady Senators. Sweigart was second on the team in kills with 129 while also totaling 150 points during the season. Buchanan was third on the team in kills with 122 and was third in Region VII in assists with 317. Buchanan averaged 4.12 assists per match. Buchanan also led the team in digs with 190. 

 

A freshman this year, Moore made her presence felt as she led the team with 210 kills and averaged 1.24 blocks per match. Moore was fourth in the region in kills and led the region in blocks and blocks per set. Moore also ranked third in the region in points with 287. 

 

Chattanooga State's Sydney Pittman was named the Most Valuable Player in Region VII while the Lady Tigers' Abby Brown was named Region VII Freshman of the Year. Along with Buchannan, Sweigart and Moore, Roane State's Mattie Arnett and Sydney Smith, Cleveland State's Megan Lee and Chattanooga State's Pittman and Brown were named to the All-Region team.
