Lady Senators take first two matches at Spartanburg Methodist Invitational

SPARTANBURG, SC – Walters State opened up the Spartanburg Methodist Invitational on Friday afternoon with two wins, taking down USC Sumter 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) and Indian River State College 3-1(25-27, 27-25, 26-24, 25-21). 

 

With the two wins, the Lady Senators improved to 6-3 on the season and have won three straight. 

 

In the USC Sumter win, Haylee Richardson led the way with eight kills and three blocks. Along with Richardson, Alyssa Campbell had nine kills and three blocks and Jaci Drinnon had 14 digs. As a team, the Lady Senators had eight aces.

 

Against Indian River, Drinnon had 34 digs while Lauren Mims had 20 digs and eight kills. Other contributors were Mattie Davis with 10 kills and four blocks and Richardson with seven kills and five blocks. The Lady Senators had nine team aces.

Walters State will be back in action on Saturday for two more matches at Spartanburg Methodist. The Lady Senators will play Indian River State at 11 a.m. and Spartanburg Methodist at 1 p.m.
