Lady Senators take down Montreat in four games

MONTREAT, N.C. — The Walters State volleyball team won for the fourth time in five matches and the seventh time in nine outings Thursday night by taking down Montreat JV in four games on the road in Western North Carolina.

 

The Lady Senators appeared to be cruising to a sweep after taking the first two games by the scores of 25-17 and 25-22, but the Cavaliers fought back to take the third game, 25-16, to force another game. Walters State made quick work of the fourth set, taking it 25-7 to close out the match with a victory.

 

With the win, the Lady Senators now stand at 8-5 on the year, while the loss dropped the Cavaliers to 1-1 on the campaign.

 

Micayla Vallie led Walters State in the match with 10 kills and 16 digs, notching a double-double in the win, while Kaley Muncy added seven kills and Olivia Kent had five kills and a team-high three blocks.

 

Sydney Hurd shed out 15 assists and notched eight digs, while Courtney Dotson added 10 assists and seven digs and Hayley Wolfe tallied 10 digs in the contest. The trio of Jayla Rolle, Mckenzie Jenkins and Lexi Wakefield each added six digs in the match, as WSCC recorded 64 digs and 32 kills on the night.

 

The Lady Senators will return to action Thursday, Sept. 20, when they host Tennessee Community College Athletic Association rival Chattanooga State inside 'Z' Buda Gymnasium and Assembly Hall. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
