HARRIMAN, TN – Walters State opened up conference play on the road Tuesday evening, easily dispatching Roane State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-21).
With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in TCCAA play.
"I'm really happy with our performance tonight," Walters State coach Megan Blaylock said. "It was a good start to region play. We played hard and played together."
The Lady Senators came out firing to start the match as Jordan Moore smashed a kill to make it 2-0 early. Walters State continued to push from there as Moore, Sidney Keck, Mackenzie Sweigart, Takiya Curry and Maddie Rockrohr all had kills.
The Lady Senators built their lead to 22-11 before a Rockrohr kill took the set at 25-12.
In the second set, Walters State once again started fast as Mercedes Collins had a kill and Bella Webb an ace. The lead would get to 10-4 and then 18-8 before a Halyn Long ace made it 21-10 and forced a Roane State timeout.
From there, the Lady Senators closed the set out at 25-15 with a kill from Sweigart.
The final set was the closest of the match as the set was tied at eight, nine, 10 and 11 before Roane State took a 13-11 lead. That led to a Walters State timeout, and the Lady Raiders held the lead until a Sweigart kill tied it at 16.
Walters State would take the lead on the next point as Moore had a kill. Faith Heskett followed it up with an ace before another Moore kill made it 19-16. From there, Moore, Sweigart and Curry had kills before a Moore kill finished the set and match at 25-21.
