Lady Senators sweep road tri-match in Virginia

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Walters State volleyball team has won nine straight sets and three straight matches following a road sweep of Patrick Henry and Vance-Granville Friday afternoon in a tri-match held at Patrick Henry Community College.

 

In the opening match of the day, the Lady Senators swept past the home team Patrick Henry, taking the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-9 and 25-20. In the finale, WSCC was hardly threatened in a 25-10, 25-13 and 25-17 victory over Vance-Granville.

 

With the wins, the Lady Senators have now won three straight matches by way of a sweep, and they are now 12-7 on the season. Patrick Henry fell to 4-6 on the year and Vance-Granville is now 3-5 on the campaign after the losses.

 

In the opener, Kaley Muncy, Micayla Vallie and Courtney Dotson led the squad with six kills apiece, while Mckenzie Jenkins added five kills in the win. Sydney Hurd handed out 14 assists and Dotson tallied nine assists, while Lexi Wakefield and Hayley Wolfe had 11 digs each, Vallie added nine digs and Dotson had eight digs in the victory. Muncy, Dotson and Olivia Kent each had a block for WSCC in the match.

 

In the nightcap, Jenkins and Muncy tagged eight kills apiece, while Vallie added five kills and Kent delivered four kills in the victory. Dotson passed out 19 assists, while Hurd added 10 assists. Vallie and Wolfe both had 14 digs in the win, and Muncy totaled a pair of blocks in the contest.

 

Earlier in the week, Walters State took down Covenant JV on the road Tuesday night in straight sets by the scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-7.

 

Jenkins led the Lady Senators with eight kills in the win, while Vallie added seven kills and Muncy had six kills on the night. Hurd dished out 12 assists for WSCC, while Dotson had nine assists, Wolfe notched 15 digs, Wakefield added 10 digs and Jenkins had nine digs in the win.

 

The Lady Senators will be back in action Monday evening at home with a second match against Covenant JV. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
