CLEVELAND, TN – There has been no stopping the No. 21 ranked Walters State volleyball team to start this season, and that continued Tuesday evening against Cleveland State.
While the Lady Senators did drop a set, they easily bounced back to close out the match with a 3-1 victory (25-23, 25-15, 14-25, 25-17).
With the win, the Lady Senators move to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
"We played really well tonight," Walters State coach Megan Blaylock said. "Cleveland has a good squad this year and played us very well tonight."
It was an intense start to the match for both teams as they battled right to the end of the set. Cleveland State actually led late, but the Lady Senators took the final two points of the set to go up 1-0.
Building off the momentum from the end of set one, the Lady Senators jumped out to a big lead in set number two and never let Cleveland State get comfortable.
However, not going down without a fight, it was the Lady Cougars who jumped on Walters State in set three, taking it by 11 to make things interesting.
But, showing why they have been so successful to start the season, the Lady Senators shrugged off the lost set and cruised to another victory.
"We were missing a few players tonight, and the girls got tired, especially in the third set," Blaylock said. "But I am very proud with the way we bounced back after that third set. That's not always easy to do. Trying new things doesn't always work, so we learn from it, make adjustments and move on. They did a great job finishing out the match, and I am very proud of the progress we are making as a team."

Walters State will be back in action on Thursday at home against Roane State. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
