No. 11 Walters State caps off perfect road record with victory over Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA, TN – No. 11 Walters State capped off a perfect road regular season record in the conference on Tuesday night, taking down Chattanooga State 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16).

With the win, the Lady Senators improve to 14-1 on the season and 11-0 in the conference. They finished with an 8-0 record on the road.

It was a tight start in set one for both squads as the two teams were tied 6-6 early on. The two teams traded points on 14 straight points at one point during the set. Chattanooga State would eventually break the tie and go up 11-8 before the Lady Senators recovered and scored six straight points to go up 14-11 and force a timeout.

From there, the Lady Senators would score six more straight points, with all of these coming on Hannah Daniel's serve, and force yet another timeout as they got up 20-11. The run got to 13 points before Chattanooga finally broke through. However, with the comfortable lead, the Lady Senators had no problems taking their 15th straight first set.

In set two, the battle continued between the two teams as they traded points to start the set yet again. It once again got to 6-6 before Walters State got a little bit of control, scoring the next three points.

While the Lady Senators maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, it would never get above a three-point lead as Chattanooga State even tied the set up multiple times. But the Lady Senators would not give in and held on to take the second set by three points.

Set three has been where the Lady Senators have struggled throughout the season and once again that was the case on Tuesday. Walters State fell behind 8-3 and were never able to get out of their funk, falling by six in the set.

However, while the play in set three has struggled at times, the play in set four has always been rock solid and that continued against the Lady Tigers.

After battling early in the set, Walters State began to pull away and had an 11-6 lead. Chattanooga State made one last push and got it to 15-13, but Walters State kept a stranglehold on the lead, scoring seven of the last eight points to take the match.

UP NEXT:

Walters State will close out the regular season at home on Thursday, taking on Cleveland State. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 as it will be sophomore night. Walters State will look to cap off a perfect 12-0 record in the conference.
