12 score in No. 19 Walters State’s 109-65 win over Denmark Tech
MORRISTOWN, TN – All 12 players that saw action for No. 19 Walters State scored on Saturday, and the Senators easily picked up a 109-65 win over Denmark Tech.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 5-0 on the season. Walters State has scored triple digits in four of its five games this season.
Tyrese Stovall led the way for Walters State in the game with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Da'Mori Lytch added 18 points and eight rebounds. Along with those two, Taquez Butler finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Jamar Livingston had 14 points and four assists.
Other contributors for Walters State were Jayden Nesbitt with 12 points and eight rebounds, Malaki Brooks with eight points and four assists, Jaquavious Wallace with six points, five rebounds and four assists, Carter Webb with five points and three assists, Jaceion Coffey with five points, Mou Riiny with four points, Trae Rideau with two points and four assists and Caiden Bauldwin with two points.
Lytch got Walters State on the board to start the game, and the Senators led 10-4 following six points from Nesbitt. Livingston scored four straight a minute later to make it 16-6, and it was 24-11 following four points from Stovall and a basket by Webb. Denmark Tech cut it to seven with six straight points, but Lytch scored four and Butler scored to make it 30-17 with 9:22 left in the half.
However, Denmark Tech stayed in the game and had things down to 39-37 with four minutes left in the half. The two teams traded points to make it 40-38, but Walters State retook control and went on a 12-2 run to end the half. During the run, Wallace scored six points, Nesbitt scored four points and Livingston scored with 16 seconds left to make it 52-40 at the break.
In the second half, Walters State led 59-45 before ending any thought of a Denmark Tech comeback with a 15-0 run. Brooks and Livingston started the run with back-to-back 3-pointers and, after Livingston hit two free throws, Lytch and Butler traded buckets. The run ended how it started, as Brooks hit a 3-pointer that made it 74-45.
Denmark Tech broke the run with a basket, but Walters State scored nine more thanks to baskets by Stovall, Webb and Bauldwin and another 3-pointer by Brooks that made it 83-47. Riiny got in on the fun with four straight points to make it 87-50, and it was 93-51 following six straight points by Lytch.
From there, Walters State cruised to the win and moved to 5-0 on the season.
