Lady Senators well represented on All-TCCAA Team

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Tennessee Community College Athletic Association announced its 2018-19 All-TCCAA Women's Basketball Team Saturday afternoon following 16th-ranked Walters State's TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament quarterfinal round win over Volunteer State inside L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium at Cleveland State Community College, and the Lady Senators are well represented.

 

Sophomore forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu was named the Co-Most Valuable Player of the TCCAA, sharing the honor with Motlow State's Janna Lewis, while Brianna Dixon was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year and WSCC coach Dave Kragel was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. The awards were voted on by the league's nine coaches.

 

Mendjiadeu was also named to the All-TCCAA First Team, along with teammate Zacharyia Esmon, while Jalayah Manning was selected to the All-TCCAA Second Team.

 

Kragel led the Lady Senators to a 25-4 regular season record, a perfect 16-0 record in TCCAA play and a 10th straight TCCAA regular season title. WSCC has won 82 straight games in TCCAA play and 162 of its last 163 in league action. With Saturday's win, Kragel has now won 986 games in his career, and this is his 19th TCCAA Coach of the Year honor.

 

Southwest Tennessee's Tia Bland was named the Freshman of the Year, while Lewis was the league's Offensive Player of Year.

 

Mendjiadeu led the Lady Senators in scoring and rebounding this season, putting in 16.2 points per game while pulling down 9.3 rebounds per contest. She also blocked 1.7 shots per game.

 

Esmon poured in 15 points per contest and grabbed 5.1 boards per game while dishing out 3.2 assists per night. Manning tallied 3.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game on the season.

 

Dixon was tabbed as the top defensive player after swiping two steals, nearly a half blocked shot and 2.6 defensive rebounds per game.

 

Joining Mendjiadeu and Esmon on the First Team were Southwest Tennessee's Takya Bennett and Tia Bland, Cleveland State's Britnay Gore, Roane State's Riley Guillemet, Motlow State's Janna Lewis, Dyersburg State's Kira Lowery, Volunteer State's Aliyah Miller and Chattanooga State's Shanice Nelson.

 

Joining Manning on the Second Team were Roane State's Amber Appiah-Kubi, Motlow State's Starasia Bell-Freeman and Tanisia Murphy, Southwest Tennessee's Tamia Curry (Walters State transfer) and Candace Gaines, Jackson State's Johnna Jones and Semajia Ogburn, Cleveland State's Hannah Phillips and Volunteer State's Xavia Williams.
