Alex Hodge named PING Second Team All-American

PLYMOUTH, Ind. — Walters State sophomore golfer Alex Hodge was named to the NJCAA Division II PING All-America and All-East Region Teams Tuesday morning before play began at the 2019 NJCAA Division II Golf National Championships at The Swan Lake Resort.

 

Hodge, a graduate of Halls High School in Knoxville, entered the national tournament as the No. 15 ranked golfer in NJCAA Division II, having put together a scoring average of 73.79 this season. He has played in all nine tournaments this season, finishing in the top 10 six times, including a win at the Tusculum Invitational this spring. He is coming off a fifth place showing at the NJCAA District J Championship.

 

Leon D'Souza and Jonathan Walters of South Mountain, Meridian's Mitchell Fifer, Kristian Kristensen of Parkland and Mississippi Gulf Coast's Brice Wilkinson were named PING First-Team All-America selections.

 

Second-Team honorees included Hodge, Mississippi Gulf Coast's Jake Crosson and Jon Hopkins, Branden Meyer of South Mountain and Kirkwood's Ryan Morrison.

 

Logan Eatherton of Mesa, Tyler JC's Tyler Kaman, Will Kidder of Meridian, South Mountain's Jeffrey Miller,and Emiel Van Geet of Murray State (OK) received honorable mention accolades.

 

Joining Hodge on the All-East Region Team were Crosson, Hopkins, Wilkinson, Kidder, Fifer, Mississippi Gulf Coast's Carter Nicholson, Itawamba's Brandon Barrett and Abraham Baldwin's Adam Park.

 

The PING All-America and All-Region Teams are selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
