OOLTEWAH, TN – Walters State finished in fourth-place on Monday in the Cleveland State Spring Tournament, playing 36 holes at The Ooltewah Club.

As a team, the Senators finished at 28-over. Walters State shot a 304 in round one and a 300 in round two.

Leading the way for Walters State was Nick Talley in fifth-place at one-over. Talley came out of the gate shooting a five-over (77) in round one with a birdie on hole seven. In round two, Talley caught fire. He birdied holes three, seven, eight and nine on the front-nine and then rallied off four straight birdies on the back-nine on holes 13-16. Talley finished the round with a four-under, 68. 

Along with Talley, Ian Kinsey and Bowen Brantley both finished in a tie for 25th-place at 11-over. Kinsey shot a seven-over, 79, in round one with a birdie on the second hole. He followed it up with a four-over, 76, in round two with birdies on holes seven and 11. 

Meanwhile, Brantley shot one-over, 73, in round one with birdies on holes three, seven, 11, 13, 14 and 18. In round two, Brantley shot a 10-over, 82, and birdied the sixth-hole. 

Rounding out the team was Sloan Brooks (T30) and Jack Leach (T42). Brooks finished the day at 13-over after shooting a three-over (75) in round one and a 10-over (82) in round two. He birdied holes seven and 14 in his opening round and hole two in his second round. 

Leach finished the tournament at 19-over, shooting a 17-over (89) in round one and a two-over (74) in round two. Leach birdied hole seven in round one and holes five, 13, 14 and 17 in round two. 

Playing as an individual, Jonas Rayfield finished in 60th-place at 42-over. Rayfield shot a 95 in round one and a 91 in round two.

Walters State will begin postseason play next, competing in the NJCAA DII Southeast District Championship on March 22-23 at the Bristol Golf Club.
