Senators finish fifth at Atomic City Classic

OAK RIDGE, TN – Walters State matched their first round score on Tuesday in the final round of the Atomic City Classic, finishing in fifth-place. 

 

The Senators shot a 17-over in round two, the same as Monday, to finish the tournament at 34-over. Roane State won the tournament at nine-over. 

 

Ian Kinsey led the way for Walters State, shooting an even-par, 72, on Tuesday. Kinsey birdied holes two, four, 12 and 14 and finished the tournament in a tie for 12th at six-over. 

 

Behind Kinsey was Bowen Brantley. Brantley shot a four-over, 76, on Tuesday and birdied the second hole. Brantley finished the tournament in a tie for 17th at seven-over. 

 

Ashton Pratt was the third finisher for Walters State in the tournament, coming in a tie for 26th at 10-over. Pratt shot a nine-over, 81, on Tuesday and birdied the fifth hole. 

 

Other golfers for Walters State were Blake Woody (T-34), Sloan Brooks (T-40) and Jonas Rayfield (T-44). Woody was the best finisher for the Senators in the second round, shooting a one-under, 69. Woody eagled the fifth hole and birdied holes seven, 10, 11 and 14. Woody finished the tournament at 12-over.

 

Meanwhile, Brooks shot a seven-over on Tuesday with birdies on the 14th and 16th holes. He finished the tournament at 14-over. Rayfield shot a six-over, 78, on Tuesday with a birdie on hole one. Rayfield finished the tournament at 16-over.

The Atomic Classic was the final tournament of the fall for Walters State. They will be back in action in the spring as they look to build off a third-place finish at last year's national tournament.
