Vaughan leads Walters State to third-place finish at Tusculum Invitational

CHUCKEY, TN -- Walters State concluded the Tusculum Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Graysburg Hills Golf Course.  

The Senators recorded their first top-3 finish of the spring season, coming in a tie for third with an overall scored of 629 (53-over). Tusculum won the event with a score of 13-over while Lenoir-Ryhne came in second and Milligan tied with the Senators.  

The Senators were led by Nate Vaughan. After shooting a 79 on Monday, Vaughan improved his score by eight shots, firing a 1-under 71 on Tuesday. That jumped him 15 spots, finishing in a tie for fourth place.  

Along with Vaughan, Hunter Hartman finished in a tie for 18th place. After shooting a 77 on Monday, Hartman followed that up with an 8-over 80 to finish at 13-over.  

Justin Cowden and Zach Wood each shot 82's on Tuesday. Cowden finished in a tie for 23rd while Wood finished in a tie for 33rd. Chad Homan rounded out the scoring for Walters State, firing home a final round of 84. He finished in a tie for 37th.  

Tusculum's Liam van Deventer won the event by six shots, shooting a 6-under.

Walters State will be back in action next Monday at the Tennessee River Rumble. It will be a two-day event at Wind River Golf Club.
