Shaw has monster game for Walters State baseball in Region 7/TCCAA Tournament win over Roane State

GALLATIN, TN – Top-ranked Walters State opened up play in the Region 7/TCCAA Tournament at Volunteer State on Tuesday afternoon with an 11-1 win over Roane State in six innings. 

 

With the win, the Senators improved to 49-8 on the season. 

 

Corbin Shaw was unstoppable in the game at the plate, going 4-4 with six RBIs. One of Shaw's hits was a solo homer. 

 

Along with Shaw, Preston Wright had two RBIs while Caleb Marmo and Cooper Torres each walked twice and scored twice. Walters State had eight hits in the game and walked nine times. 

 

On the mound, Jackson Hull (8-1) got the start and threw four innings. Hull struck out seven and allowed one run on four hits. 

 

Replacing Hull in the fifth was Colby Reynolds and he threw a scoreless inning before Coltin Reynolds and Ty Cobb combined to pitch a scoreless sixth. 

 

Roane State started the scoring with a solo homer in the first, but Walters State immediately took the lead in the bottom of the first as Shaw singled home Torres and Marmo to make it 2-1.

 

In the fourth, the Senators broke the game open with seven runs to take a 9-1 lead. Those runs came on a Shaw solo homer, a Wright two-RBI double, a Marmo bases loaded walk, a wild pitch that scored Wright and a two-RBI single by Shaw. 

 

After Jackson Bryan singled home a run in the fifth to make it 10-1, the Senators finished things off in the sixth as Shaw singled home Torres.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday, taking on Dyersburg State. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. ET.
