Senators take first place in Panther Creek Invitational

MORRISTOWN, TN – The Walters State Cross Country team got off to a strong start to open their season on Saturday, taking home first place at the Panther Creek Invitational.

The men finished with a total of 19 points which gave them the title over Southwest Virginia Community College. The Walters State women's team raced a time trial after the Southwest Virginia women's team was forced to drop out.

On the men's side, Alexander LeBlanc took first place with a time of 20:07. Christopher Gaby came in third place for the Senators with a time of 21:06 while Lucas Greineder (22:11) and Nicholas Noble (22:23) followed behind in fourth and fifth place.

Keeping the momentum going, Brian Kiplagai (22:34) and Gabriel Davis (23:14) finished in sixth and seventh place. Mitchell Korody finished it out for the Senators with a time of 24:47, good enough for 10th place.

On the women's side, Lily Dodson, Nadia Lopez, Amelia Weeks, Meghan Davis, Kaylyn Noonan and Hayleigh Adams all competed in the time trial.

This was the first of seven races the Senators are set to compete in this season. They will travel to Greeneville for the Zaxby's Invitational next Friday before coming back to host the Walters State Invite on Sept. 10. After finishing out the month in the Maryville Invitational on Sept. 24, Walters State will conclude the regular season with the Walters State Half Marathon, the Berry College Invitational and the Bruins Invite.
