Walters State falls in both games against Volunteer State on Saturday

GALLATIN, TN — The Lady Senators drop both games in their doubleheader on Saturday at Volunteer State.

Walters State could not hold its early 7-2 lead in the first game as Volunteer State came back with a successful fifth and sixth inning for an 11-10 win.

A tie ball game started game two but Volunteer State managed a six-run inning in the sixth to defeat Walters State 13-5 to complete Saturday's sweep over the Lady Senators.

Volunteer State scored the first two runs of the first game but a seven-run second inning from the Lady Senators gave them a five-run advantage up until the fifth inning.

Lauren Brickey pitched six innings for Walters State and gave up eight runs as she took her first loss of the season on the mound, falling to 4-1.

The game looked to be in the Lady Senators' control after Brickey knocked one over the fence in the second inning to bring home Sydney Dukes for the 7-2 lead.

Volunteer State would not let Walters State blow them out on its home field, though.

A combined eight runs were scored in the fifth and sixth inning for Volunteer State to edge an 11-10 lead, and the pitching took care of the rest.

Volunteer State 13, Walters State 5

Walters State followed a pattern on Saturday as game two started off pretty similar as the Lady Senators hung with Volunteer State until the fourth inning.

Kasey Bennett and Dukes each managed a sacrifice bunt in the second inning to knot the game up at 2-2.

Volunteer State, though, exploded in the fourth inning and Walters State committed one too many errors as the innings went by.

As the sixth inning came around, Volunteer State found six more runs with three of them coming off its three hits in the inning.

The score before Volunteer State's sixth inning was 7-5 with a chance for Walters State but that ended the next inning.
