Walters State falls twice to Motlow State

TULLAHOMA, TN – Walters State returned to play on Wednesday afternoon after two weeks off, falling twice on the road to Motlow State, 8-4 and 3-1.

With the sweep, the Lady Senators fall to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in TCCAA play.

MOTLOW STATE 8, WALTERS STATE 4

In game one, the Lady Senators managed to put the bat on the ball but struggled to bring runners home.

Walters State collected 10 hits in the contest with Jessica Campbell leading the way with three hits and an RBI. Along with Campbell, Kallyn Newport, Sydney Dukes and Jessica Odom each had two hits while Odom, Dukes and Kasey Bennett all knocked in runs.

The Lady Senators got the scoring going in the first inning when Dukes singled home Campbell to take an early 1-0 lead. Motlow responded in the bottom of the inning, but the Lady Senators retook the lead in the top of the second when Campbell singled in Odom.

Then in the third, with Walters State trailing by a run, Odom continued the offense for the Lady Senators, singling home Dukes to tie the game at three. Walters State would add one more run in the contest when Bennett was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Jenica Brown.

Allison Chandler got the start in the circle for Walters State, throwing the entirety of the game. Chandler allowed eight runs, six earned, on 14 hits and struck out one.

MOTLOW STATE 3, WALTERS STATE 1

A new face took the circle for Walters State in game two as Olivia Wheeler made her first start of the season.

Wheeler, who is the normal third baseman for Walters State, did extremely well in the circle considering the circumstances. Wheeler threw all six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two.

However, at the plate the Lady Senators struggled to get anything going. They were led by Brown, who had two hits and an RBI. Odom also had two hits while Campbell and Newport each recorded a hit of their own.

Walters State's lone run in the game came in the fourth inning when Brown singled in Dukes to make it 3-1.
