Lady Senators softball score 44 runs in doubleheader sweep of Dyersburg State

DYERSBURG, TN – No. 4 Walters State scored early and often on Monday afternoon, taking a doubleheader sweep from Dyersburg State. The Lady Senators won 22-0 in five innings in game one, before taking a 22-2 win in game two.

 

With the sweep, Walters State improved to 44-2 on the season and 28-2 in TCCAA play. 

 

GAME ONE: No. 4 Walters State 22, Dyersburg State 0 (5 Innings)

 

Walters State scored 16 runs in the first three innings and were off from there, taking an easy win.

 

Tatum Dye had a day to remember at the plate for the Lady Senators, drilling three homers and driving in nine runs. Halle Laramie also homered, while Jules Johnson drove in four runs. 

 

The Lady Senators totalled 19 hits in the game.

 

In the circle, Tori Coffman threw three innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five. Adrienne Morrison replaced Coffman in the fourth and threw a scoreless inning before Abigayle Holt finished things off in the fifth. 

 

Dye started the scoring off in the game with a two-run homer in the first to give Walters State an early lead. In the second, eight more runs crossed the plate to make it 10-0. Those runs came on a Abigail Taylor RBI single, a Kailey Dixon RBI single, a Kasey Bennett RBI single, a Jules Johnson RBI single, a Dye three-run homer and a Laramie solo homer. 

 

In the third, Walters State added six more runs as they continued the offensive onslaught. The scoring started as Bennett was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Following an error that scored another run, Laramie grounded out to score Bennett and Ava Brooks singled to score Johnson and make it 15-0. The final run of the inning came on an RBI groundout by Olivia Harris

 

Walters State added three more runs in the fourth on a Dye three-run bomb that made it 19-0 before closing things out in the fifth with three more runs. Those runs came on a bases loaded walk, a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Laramie. 

 

GAME TWO: No. 4 Walters State 22, Dyersburg State 2 (5 Innings)

 

In game two, Walters State continued the offensive outburst as they scored 22 runs for the second straight game. 

 

Six Lady Senators homered in the game, with Brooks hitting two. Laramie, Bennett, Taylor, Brianna Beech and Dye each hit bombs, as well.

 

As a team, the Lady Senators totalled 21 hits in the game. Dixon, Johnson, Brooks and Taylor each had three hits. Dixon and Dye also drove in five runs each. For the day, Dye had four homers and drove in 14 runs. 

 

In the circle, Ashley Milligan started and pitched all five innings. She gave up two runs on six hits and struck out five. 

 

Following an RBI single by Bennett in the first, the Lady Senators broke the game open with seven runs in the second. Those runs came on a bases loaded walk to Johnson, a two-RBI single by Dye, a three-run homer by Beech and a solo shot by Brooks that made it 8-0.

 

The Lady Senators added a run in the third on a Dixon sacrifice fly and then scored five more times in the fourth to make it 14-0. Those runs came on a Dixon three-RBI triple and a Bennett two-run homer.

 

The Lady Senators capped off the game and series with eight runs in the fifth inning as Brooks homered, Taylor hit a two-run homer, Dye hit a three-run homer, Laramie homered and Dixon singled to score Beech.

Walters State closes out the regular season this coming Friday and Saturday against Columbia State. First pitch on Friday is set for 2 p.m.
