No. 7 Walters State splits final two games with Motlow State

MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 7 Walters State started off strong on Friday afternoon against Motlow State with an 11-0 win in game one. However, the Lady Senators could not complete the sweep as they fell 3-2 in game two.

 

With the split, the Lady Senators moved to 16-2 on the season and 7-1 in TCCAA play.

 

GAME ONE: No. 7 Walters State 11, Motlow State 0 (5 Innings)

 

In game one, the Lady Senators scored seven runs in the first inning and were off from there. 

 

Tori Coffman got the start in the circle, going four innings. Coffman struck out six and allowed one hit. Emma Myatt replaced Coffman in the fifth and threw the final inning, striking out one and locking up the win. 

 

The Lady Senators exploded out of the gate in game one with seven runs in the bottom of the first. Following a run scored on a bases loaded walk, Olivia Neese made it 5-0 with a grand slam. It was her first home run of the season. 

 

The final two runs of the inning for Walters State came on a two-run home run by Imari Golden, her second of the season. 

 

In the third, Walters State added to the lead as Abigail Taylor tripled and scored Golden to make it 8-0. Kailey Dixon was next up, and she singled home Taylor to make it 9-0. Dixon then stole second and scored to make it 10-0.

 

The final run of the game for Walters State came in the bottom of the fourth, as Golden singled to score Neese and made it 11-0. 

 

GAME TWO: Motlow State 3, No. 7 Walters State 2

 

In game two, Motlow State broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the seventh and held on for the win. 

 

Hayley Lawing got the start in the circle for Walters State and threw four innings. She allowed one run before being replaced by Coffman in the fifth. Coffman gave up two runs but struck out seven. 

 

Motlow got the scoring started in the third with a run, but Walters State tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Haidyn Campbell's third home run of the series. Walters State took the lead three batters later, as Brooklyn Copley smoked a solo shot to make it 2-1.

 

Unfortunately for Walters State, they could not hold the lead and fell. 

 

Up Next:


Walters State will be back in action next Friday on the road against Jackson State. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET.
