COLUMBIA, TN – Top-seeded Walters State scored 11 times in the first three innings of their opening game of the TCCAA/Region VII Tournament on Monday morning, taking an 11-1 win over eighth-seeded Jackson State in five innings.

With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 42-7 on the season. Walters State will play fourth-seeded Volunteer State on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT.

On Monday, Tori Coffman got the start and improved to 19-1 with the win. Coffman pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out six. Hayley Lawing pitched the final inning and didn't allow a hit.

At the plate, Nora Mack hit a grand slam and drove home five runs. Brooklyn Copley and Sarah Evers also homered, while Kailey Dixon and Abigail Taylor each had two hits.

The Lady Senators got on the board first, as Copley and Evers each hit two-run home runs in the opening inning that made it 4-0. Both home runs came with two outs.

Following a run in the second on a Mack sacrifice fly that scored Haidyn Campbell, the Lady Senators scored seven more runs in the third inning. Those runs came on a dropped-third strike that allowed Imari Golden to score, a Taylor RBI single and a Mack grand slam over the fence in center that made it 11-0.

Jackson State picked up a solo homer in the fourth, but that was all.
