LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Walters State sophomore guard Miles Thomas put on an impressive showing at the 2019 NJCAA All-Star Game recently at the Orleans Arena in Nevada, helping the Division I All-Stars to a 124-98 victory over the Division II/III All-Stars.

Thomas fired in 17 points, making 8 of 11 shots from the field and his only free throw attempt, while pulling down four rebounds, dishing out three assists and recording a steal in the lopsided victory.

Thomas was one of a dozen Division I players selected for the game. He was one of 11 Division I All-Americans on the roster, including 2019 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year Chris Duarte, a sophomore at Northwest Florida State and Oregon signees.

Thomas and Duarte were two of four First Team All-Americans on the Division I team. The duo was joined by Gaige Prim from South Plains and Demarkus Lampley of Wallace State-Hanceville. Duarte led all scorers with 26 points, while Lampley added 20, Lony Francis Jr. had 18, Javonte Perkins tallied 15 and David Sloan had 10 in the win.

Thomas was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball All-America First Team, the All-TCCAA First Team and the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association's Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year following his stellar second campaign with the Senators.

The Knoxville native and graduate of South-Doyle High School averaged 21.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game this year while also eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for his two-year career in Morristown. He scored 663 points, pulled down 197 rebounds (51 on offense, 146 on defense), dished out 137 assists, had 50 steals and blocked 13 shots during the year.

In TCCAA play, he was even better, averaging 23.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.7 assists per conference tilt. He helped lead the Senators to a 23-8 record and a regular season TCCAA championship.
