Houge’s double-double leads Walters State over Experience Academy

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State won their sixth straight game on Sunday afternoon, taking down Experience Academy 114-62.

 

With the win, Walters State improved to 10-6 on the season. 

 

Michael Houge had a career day for the Senators with 19 points, 24 rebounds, eight assists and five steals in just 24 minutes. Houge has now scored double digits in every game this season and is averaging 17 points per game and 8.4 rebounds. Sunday was Houge's fifth double-double this season.

 

Along with Houge, Malachi Hale had 23 points and seven rebounds. Other contributors for Walters State were Daveonne Warfield with 14 points, Elijah Davis with 13 points, Riley Cooper with 12 points and eight rebounds, Jair Horton with 10 points and nine rebounds, Jaylen Wharton with nine points, Wade Pelfrey with six points and five rebounds, Destin Barker with four points and four rebounds and Ty Hurst with four points and four rebounds. 

 

As a team, Walters State shot 48.2% from the field and brought down a season-high 63 rebounds. The Senators also had 15 assists. 

 

On the defensive end of the floor, the Senators held Experience to 34% from the field and forced 21 turnovers. 

 

The defense was strong for Walters State in the first half as they allowed just 19 points while scoring 46 of their own. Houge had 12 rebounds and six assists in the first 20 minutes while Hale had 13 points and Warfield had nine. 

 

In the second half, Walters State added 68 more points to cruise to the victory. Houge had 17 points and 12 more rebounds in the second half while Hale added 10 points. Davis was a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc in the half.

 

As a team in the final 20 minutes, Walters State shot 50% and didn't have a single turnover.

Walters State will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel Chattanooga State for a conference matchup. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
