Senators open 2024 with 105-78 win over Experience Academy

MORRISTOWN, TN – Micah Simpson scored a season-high 27 points on Friday evening, as Walters State got 2024 started strong with a 105-78 win over Experience Academy. 

 

With the victory, the Senators improved to 12-0 on the season.

 

Along with Simpson, Ramondo Battle had 15 points while Jaylen Wharton tied his season-high with 14 points. 

 

Other scorers for the Senators included Charvez Ambrose with 10 points, Jamar Livingston with nine points, JR Jacobs with eight points, Chi Shannon with eight points, Malachi Hale with six points, Greg Moore with four points, Jaylon Taylor with two points and Jair Horton with two points. 

 

After being off for almost 20 days, the Senators came out firing offensively to start. Walters State scored 51 points in the opening 20 minutes and led by 20 at the break.

 

In the first half, Simpson had 13 points while Battle added 11. Jacobs tallied eight, as well.

 

In the second half, it was more of the same offensively as the Senators scored 54 more points. While they did give up 47 points in the final 20 minutes, Walters State cruised to the win. 

 

Simpson led the way again in the second half with 14 points, while Wharton had eight and Shannon, Ambrose and Hale each had six.

Walters State will be back in action at home on Wednesday, taking on Motlow State. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
