Walters State's Boyd named NJCAA Men's All-American

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State's De'Marius Boyd lit up the state of Tennessee during the 2020-21 basketball season.

On Wednesday afternoon, Boyd was honored for his phenomenal season as he was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball All-American Second Team.

Boyd is the first All-American from Walters State since the 2018-19 season when Miles Thomas was named a First Team All-American.

A Haywood, TN native, Boyd averaged 23.1 points per game, good for second in the entire nation. He shot 47.1% from the field and scored a total of 358 points in just 17 games.

Boyd was also named the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Player of the Year on the east side of the conference and was named to the All-TCCAA First Team.

Boyd helped guide the Senators to a 12-6 season and a No. 2 seed in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament. Boyd scored double digits in all but one game this year and had a 32-point performance against Cleveland State in February, a 32-point performance against Motlow in March and a 38-point performance against Cleveland State on March 27.

Joining Boyd on the second team were Grayson's Tyrone Williams, Ranger's Keisei Tominaga, Coffeyville's Tylor Perry, Daytona State's Jackson Makoi, Northeastern's Dalton Knecht, South Georgia Tech's Jalen Reynolds, Holmes' Kaleb Higgins, Hinds' Jordan Johnson and Olney Central's Elijah Far.

The All-America selections are made by the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee.
