Nichols named TCCAA Coach of the Year, three named to All-TCCAA teams

MORRISTOWN, TN – In his first year in charge of the Walters State Senators, Jerry Nichols is already being honored for his impressive job coaching the Senators. 

 

Nichols was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year, while Micah Simpson and Ramondo Battle were named 1st Team All-TCCAA. Additionally, JR Jacobs was named 2nd Team All-TCCAA. 

 

In Nichols' first season in charge of the Senators, Walters State finished the regular season at 25-2 and ranked No. 21 in the country. The Senators won the conference for the first time since 2019 with a 16-2 record and their 25 wins are the most for Walters State since 2007-08. 

 

Simpson was named 1st Team All-TCCAA after finishing the year first in the conference in 3-point percentage at 47.7%. Simpson averaged 14 points per game and was fourth in the conference with 54 steals. Simpson made 61 3-pointers this season and shot 54.8% from the field. 

 

Along with Simpson, Battle was named 1st Team All-TCCAA. This season, Battle averaged 14.5 and 6.6 rebounds per game. Battle was eighth in the conference with 172 total rebounds and sixth in the conference in free throw percentage at 79.6. Battle scored double digit points in the last 12 games of the regular season. 

 

The Senators freshman point guard, Jacobs was named 2nd Team All-TCCAA after leading the country in assists per game. Jacobs averaged 8.6 assists per game, to go along with eight points and 3.7 rebounds. The do-it-all point guard is first in the conference and second in the country with 232 assists and is first in the conference and eighth in the country with a 4.1 assist to turnover ratio.
