SPARTANBURG, SC – Walters State took part in the 2022 Eye Opener XC Festival on Friday evening, taking on elite NCAA competition.
On the women's side, Walters State finished in 10th place. In the men's race, the Senators finished in 13th place. Furman swept both races.
The race was a 5K for the women and an 8K for the men.
Leading the way on the women's side for Walters State was Ashley Soto Perez in 65th place with a time of 23:21.2. Amelia Weeks was just behind Perez in 67th place with a time of 23:21.9.
Other finishers for the Lady Senators were Molly Wright (24:56) in 71st, Julianne Dodson (25.13) in 73rd, Emily Wright (27:34) in 78th and Rachel Jarnigan (34:19) in 89th place.
Furman's Abigail Robertson won the race with a time of 17:49.
On the men's side, the Senators were once again led by Brando Resendiz. After winning the season opener last week, Resendiz finished in 57th place on Friday with a time of 29:19.
Behind Resendiz in 86th place was Sam Hall with a time of 31:33. Alexander LeBlanc was the next finisher for the Senators in 100th place with a time of 33:00.
Other racers for the Senators were Carl Andes (33:58) in 105th place, Jesse Ramos (35:15) in 109th place, Lucas Greineder (36:23) in 111th and Caden Chambers (43:00) in 116th.
Methodist's Drew Topoly won the race with a time of 24:56.
Up Next:
Walters State will be back in action next Saturday at the Walters State Invite. The race is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. for the women and 9:15 a.m. for the men.
