Senators, Lady Senators win Region 7 Cross Country Championship

MARYVILLE, TN – Brando Resendiz and Julianne Dodson continued their impressive freshmen seasons on Friday morning at the Region 7 Cross Country Championships, both taking home the title at Maryville College. 

 

Resendiz won the 8K men's race with a time of 28:58 while Dodson ran a 20:44 in the women's 5K race. The time for Dodson was nine seconds quicker than her previous personal record. 

 

As a team, the men's and women's squads both took home the Region 7 Title. Roane State was the other team competing at the meet.

 

Along with Dodson, the Lady Senators had two others make the All-Region team. Amelia Weeks finished behind Dodson in second place with a time of 22:27 while Emma Hamilton finished in fourth place with a time of 22:48. 

 

Roane State had two make the All-Region team: Ivy Tilson in third place with a time of 22:43 and Christen Chaston in fifth place with a time of 23:48. 

 

Rounding out the Lady Senators on Friday were Molly Wright and Emily Wright. Molly finished in sixth place with a time of 23:55 while Emily finished in seventh place with a time of 26:56. 

 

All-Region honors on the men's side for Walters State, along with Resendiz, were Alexander LeBlanc in second place with a time of 31:38, Sam Hall in fourth with a time of 32:14 and Jessie Ramos in fifth place with a time of 35:37. LeBlanc was in fourth place heading to the final loop of the race but passed two runners to take home second place. 

 

Rounding out the All-Region team was Matthew Cannon from Roane State in third place with a time of 31:59. 

 

Other runners for Walters State in the race were Lucas Greineder in seventh place with a time of 36:40 and Carl Andes in eight place with a time of 38:23. 

 

Following the conclusion of the race, Walters State Cross Country Coach Raymond Farmer was named the Region 7 Coach of the Year.

Walters State will have one final race next Saturday before the NJCAA Championships. The Senators and Lady Senators will travel to Greenville, SC for the Bruins Invite.
