WSXC: Senators win Region 7 Cross Country Championship; Dodson, Resendiz win individual titles

MORRISTOWN, TN – The Walters State men's cross country team won the Region 7 Championship on Friday morning, while Julianne Dodson won the women's race and Brando Resendiz won the men's race. 

 

It's the second straight year both Dodson and Resendiz have won the Region 7 Championship. Raymond Farmer was named the Coach of the Year on the men's side. 

 

The Senators won the men's race with a score of 15, while the women came in second with a score of 29. Roane State won the women's title with a score of 27.

 

Resendiz won the men's individual title with a time of 30:38. Wade Walters was second with a time of 35:42, while Juan Guillen was third with a time of 35:53. Coming in sixth was Jessie Ramos with a time of 38:48, and Ignacio Vargas Huipe was seventh with a time of 38:52. Rounding out the team was Benjamin Eigenmann in ninth with a time of 41:19. 

 

The men's race was an 8K.

 

On the women's side, Dodson won the 5K race with a time of 21:59. Chloe Williford was third with a time of 25:12, while Emma Hamilton was fifth with a time of 25:59. Rounding out the team were Lani Helton in ninth with a time of 29:33, and Lexi Shepard with a time of 35:51 in her first race for the Lady Senators.

The Senators and Lady Senators will now head to Birmingham, AL for the NJCAA DII Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on November 11. The Half Marathon will take place on Tuesday, November 14.
