Senators pick up first TCCAA win, 81-58, over Cleveland State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State broke open a three-point halftime lead in the opening minutes of the second half on Wednesday evening against Cleveland State, taking an 81-58 victory. 

With the win, the Senators improved to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in TCCAA play.

Malaki Brooks led the way for Walters State in the game, scoring 20 points and knocking in five 3-pointers. Along with Brooks, Charvez Ambrose had 16 points while Elijah Clinton added 14 points. Anthony Davis Jr. was the other Senator in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Other scorers for Walters State were Da'Mori Lytch with seven points, Quin'Darius Rumph with seven points, Carter Metz with five points and Stevlen Morris with two points. 

It was a slower start for Walters State, but the Senators got hot to end the half and led 32-29 at the break. The Senators hit six 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, as Clinton had 10 points and Brooks had six. 

In the second half, the Senators led by 16 just five minutes in and held that lead as they went on for the win. Brooks hit three more 3-pointers and had 14 points, while Ambrose scored 15 of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes. Lytch had six points, while Davis Jr. had five.
