Robertson strikes out 11 in No. 17 Walters State’s 9-2 win over Motlow State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Aiden Robertson struck out 11 on Sunday afternoon against Motlow State, and No. 17 Walters State went on for a 9-2 victory.

With the win, the Senators improved to 12-2-1 overall and 2-2 in TCCAA play. 

Robertson (4-1) threw six innings in the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits. For the season, Robertson has a 1.54 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 23.1 innings. 

Brady Scott replaced Robertson in the seventh and pitched the final three innings, earning his second save of the season. Scott allowed just two hits and struck out five in an impressive outing. 

At the plate, Carson Cabbage homered and drove in two runs, while Jack Vogele and Holden Pantier had two hits each. 

Motlow State took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the inning, Walters State finally found the scoreboard as Brantley Bamberg doubled home Tyler Myatt and Cabbage crushed a two-run home run over the fence in left that gave the Senators a 3-2 advantage.

That was the score until the seventh, when Walters State scored four runs. Those runs came on a Jack Torbett RBI single, a Nate Conner RBI single, a Pantier RBI double and a groundout by Myatt that scored Vogele to make it 7-2.

The final two runs for the Senators came in the eighth, as Kole Fenton singled home Atticus Goodson, who tripled to open up the inning, and Kenny Cox roped a double that scored Fenton to make it 9-2.

In the ninth, Scott got two strikeouts and a groundout to end the game.
