
MORRISTOWN, TN – Jack Vogele homered in his first two bats against Columbia State on Friday afternoon and drove in four runs in the game, as No. 8 Walters State took a 10-9 win over the Chargers.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 34-5-1 overall and 15-4 in TCCAA play.
Vogele had four hits in the game to go along with his four RBIs. He also scored three runs and stole a base. Along with Vogele, Carson Cabbage had a home run, a double and three RBIs while Tyler Myatt had three hits and Kole Fenton recorded two hits.
On the mound, Walker Morgan got the start and threw 3.2 innings. Morgan gave up five runs on six hits and struck out two. Brady Scott (2-0) replaced Morgan with two outs in the fourth and threw the next four innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four. After Mason Trucks got an out in the eighth, Matthew Porchas picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Walters State got going in the first inning as Vogele smashed a two-run home run to go up 2-0. Columbia tied the game with a run in the second and a run in the third, but Vogele hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to get the lead back. Walters State scored three more times in the inning when Cabbage smoked a three-run bomb to make it 6-2.
The Chargers cut the lead to 6-5 with three runs in the fourth, but Myatt got a run back in the bottom half with an RBI single that made it 7-5. Taylor Harris made it 8-5 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly that scored Cabbage, but Columbia got the run back with a solo home run.
The Senators scored one more run in the sixth on an error that scored Vogele, and their final run in the seventh on an RBI single by Vogele that made it 10-6. Columbia got three runs in the eighth to make it a one-run game and had the tying run on first with two outs. But, Trucks got a strikeout to end the inning and Porchas pitched around a walk in the ninth to end the game.
